Dot Excel

Getting Started

If you sign up using an existing domain, please start from step 1.

If you purchase your domain from us, you can start from step 2.

Step 1: Redelegate your domain to our nameservers.

You originally purchased your domain name from a registrar, and this registrar is where your current DNS settings/nameserver settings reside. Your "nameserver settings " must be updated to point to our nameservers.

Redelegation procedures varies slightly depending on your registrar, but many registrars will allow you to make this change yourself online on the company's web site. When you contact your registrar, you'll need to provide it with Dot Excel's nameserver information. Please remember that you simply need to ask your registrar to change your nameserver information to point to Dot Excel's nameservers.

Our nameserver information is below.

Please note that after domain redelegation, it will take around 12 - 48 hours before you will be able to access your website due to DNS propagation. DNS Propagation is the process by which the computers on the Internet update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site domain name(s). When this is complete, your domain name can be accessed and recognized on the Internet. Upon completion of DNS propagation, you should be able to see your place holder by visiting

Step 2: Understand your Web Hosting Control Panel

The Web Hosting Control Panel is the console from which you will administer every aspect of your Web Hosting plan, from creating new email accounts, managing your email accounts, creating databases, monitoring your site statistics, monitoring your disk space usage, and more.

You can access your control panel by going to the members area on our website or by typing for the administrator or for the users. Our control panel is very user friendly that you will find it very easy to use. We also have video tutorials to guide you through all aspects of the control panel at

Step 3: Set up and configure your email

You do this by going to your control panel. Click here to see how to create email accounts.

Step 4: Begin building your website

You need to use a site building tool to build your website. Examples of such tool are Macromedia Dreamweaver and Frontpage. If you would like to use a free one you can download NVU which is an open source site building tool.

Step 5: Upload your website

To upload your website you will need an FTP client. Below are some of the FTP clients that can be downloaded for free:

Smart FTP

You will need to enter the below FTP information below to log in to your FTP account.

FTP address :
User Name:
Password: password
Port: 21 (may not be needed)

Upon logging into your account, you will see a folder called mainwebsite_html. This is where you place your web files (HTML files). Anything you place in this folder will be viewable on the web.

Under this mainwebsite_html folder, you will see a file called index.html. This is the place holder for your site. Place holder is the first page the server looks for when a request is made for your website. You will need to delete this index.html place holder and replace it with your default page e.g. index.html, index.htm or index.php. Make sure you are using all lower case letters when naming your default page.

Please click here if you are using Microsoft FrontPage in publishing your website.
